| | Company Description | Bloodworks Northwest (formerly Puget Sound Blood Center) is recognized internationally for pioneering research in transfusion medicine, tissue banking and cellular preservation. Operating the nation's largest centralized transfusion service and the Northwest Tissue Center, the Blood Center is fertile ground for research that improves transfusion and transplantation therapy, increases understanding of blood diseases, genetics and immunology. NIH and other peer-reviewed grants totaling over $4 million annually fund the expanding research program. The Blood Center's Research Division employs over 40 scientists in eight major laboratories, where investigators collaborate frequently with other biomedical research organizations locally, nationally and internationally.
Blood Center physicians and scientists are faculty at the University of Washington, School of Medicine and provide guidance and leadership on the FDA's Blood Products Advisory Committee, the boards of the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), the American Association of Tissue Banking (AATB) the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) and the World Apheresis Association (WAA). | |
