Zymeworks is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the discovery, development and commercialization of next-generation bispecific and multifunctional biotherapeutics, initially focused on the treatment of cancer. About The Position

Zymeworks is seeking a Research Associate II with expertise in chromatography and mass spectrometry to join the Analytics group within the ADC Therapeutic Development department. The Analytics group is responsible for biophysical characterization of antibodies, antibody drug conjugates (ADCs) and/or other therapeutic proteins, and the advancement of ADC therapeutic candidates and platform technologies.

The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic and motivated team responsible for supporting pipeline program advancement and contributing to core platform technology improvements and innovation. The candidate will be challenged to critically analyze results and contribute to the Zymeworks team effort to create clinically and commercially relevant therapeutics. Zymeworks is seeking a highly-motivated professional who is looking to grow their career with our company.

This position will report to our Senior Research Associate, and will be based in our laboratory in Vancouver, BC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide characterization and quantitative analytics expertise to support projects from exploratory characterization through in vivo studies.
  • Develop and execute LC-MS, native MS, peptide mapping and other analytical methods to support antibody-drug-conjugate and multi-specific antibody therapeutic development.
  • Apply analytical skills and judgment in assessing the quality of data and assay performance. Prepare and disseminate data presentations for group/project meetings, summarize results, and aid in crafting experimental outlines.
  • Adhere to Zymeworks standard procedures for generating, documenting, and archiving data, maintaining an accurate, up-to-date electronic laboratory notebook.
  • Conduct all activities in accordance with scientific standards, OS&H regulations and established Zymeworks’ policies and practices.
  • May co-author or author scientific papers.
  • Actively work to foster an environment of effective and collaborative working relationships amongst employees, management, and external partners.
  • Contribute to a safe and highly efficient laboratory environment.

Qualifications and Education

  • Requires a BSc in chemistry, biochemistry or a similar field with a minimum of 2-3 years' related experience.

  • Adhere to the highest professional standards and maintain strict confidentiality on matters that require discretion.
  • Must be able to work onsite in Vancouver, BC.

Skills and Abilities

  • Good organizational and time management skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast paced, fast changing environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively as a member of a cross-functional team; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Good oral, presentation, and scientific/technical writing skills.

Advanced knowledge and proficiency in the following techniques

  • High performance liquid
  • chromatography.
  • Mass spectrometry.
  • Methods for protein characterization.
  • Extraction techniques (protein precipitation, liquid-liquid extraction and SPE).
  • Experience with Agilent or Waters HPLC and mass spectrometry instrumentation and software considered an asset.
  • General knowledge of antibody and antibody drug conjugate structure/function is an asset.
