Position:

Chinook Therapeutics is seeking a collaborative Sr. Research Associate to join the Translational and Target Biology team at our site in Vancouver, Canada. This role will be responsible for designing, performing, and analyzing in vitro experiments to support identification of new targets, expand on findings from translational human datasets and support building out new technologies, like state-of-the art organoid and cell-based systems. Hands-on experience in cellular biology, molecular biology, and enzymology is required. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong teamwork and communication skills, will be able to design and perform experiments independently, and will propose innovative solutions to biological questions. The person in this role will work within a multidisciplinary drug discovery team to advance project goals.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design, perform, and analyze in vitro experiments to support new target identification
  • Establish and execute assays to analyze Pharmacodynamic (PD) and translational biomarkers in preclinical samples
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary research team to design and execute PD and efficacy analysis on in vivo samples
  • Proactively review research literature and contribute to overall project strategy
  • Participate in and present data in team meetings
  • Mentor other research professionals; may manage team members including co-op students
  • Contribute to development and maintenance of a positive team-focused company culture

Location:

Chinook has offices located in Seattle WA, Oakland CA, and Vancouver BC

  • This is an on-site position located in Chinook's Vancouver BC office.

Education, Experience, and Skills:

Required

  • Strong working knowledge of cellular biology and molecular biology. Hands-on experience establishing cell culture platforms and/or cell-based functional assays
  • B.Sc. degree with at least 5 years of post-graduate experience in an industry or academic setting
  • Hands-on experience in key biological techniques (e.g., qPCR, ELISA, Western blotting, and/or immunohistochemistry, immune cell culture, flow cytometry)
  • Hands-on experience with primary cell culture with preference for primary kidney cell culture expertise (e.g. podocyte systems, endothelial cells, proximal tubule cells)
  • Demonstrated history of learning and establishing new laboratory techniques independently
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate data in a clear manner

Preferred:

  • Experience establishing and implementing high-throughput techniques for molecular biology and cell biology applications
  • Experience with iPSC differentiation protocols and Organoid development
  • Experience establishing and evaluating 3D Cell-Culture Systems
  • Knowledge in renal cell biology mechanisms underlying kidney disease and/or Inflammation/autoimmune disease
  • Effective time management skills and ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, meet deadlines, and prioritize work
  • A strong team player with a passion for science and drug discovery
  • Scientific curiosity, positive attitude, and high personal and ethical standards
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and train others

Salary Range: $100,000 - $117,000
