Summary:

The Sr. Manager, Global Scientific Communications role serves as a key contributor within the Global Medical Communications function. This individual will provide strategic direction of and is ultimately responsible for internal and external global medical communications deliverables to advance Medical Affairs objectives. In this highly cross-functional role, the Senior Manager, Global Scientific Communications will drive overall publication strategy, lead scientific messaging, facilitate creation of scientific content, and oversee development of scientific exchange resources to ensure communication activities are aligned to global medical strategy. This position is highly collaborative and thus would prefer a candidate who is able to work in a hybrid capacity 1-3 days a week physically with the team in Seagen hub site, either Seattle or south San Francisco.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of therapeutic area-specific scientific communication activities, including:
    • Understanding of the medical strategies, disease areas, and objectives necessary to provide strategic input to a broad range of stakeholders on matters related to scientific communications planning and data dissemination/disclosure
    • Development and execution of the strategic scientific plan, including the scientific communication platform, strategic publication plan, and additional educational resources that align with program objectives
    • Lead scientific communication team to ensure alignment of cross-functional stakeholders and alliance partners on the external scientific communication plan
    • Conduct gap analyses to identify medical/scientific communication needs or opportunities
    • Manage tracking of company- or
    • Monitor related industry issues for publication planning (e.g., ICMJE), ensure adherence to company best publication practices, and participate in educating internal stakeholders about
    • Provide writing and editorial support for Medical Affairs-driven publications
    • Track timelines and milestones for projects contracted with communication agencies providing tactical support and provide status reports to Scientific Communications Senior Management
    • Ensure work is high quality and developed on time and within budget

  • Recommend and implement innovative approaches for enhancing Scientific Communications deliverables
  • Support achievement of broader Medical Affairs organizational goals, projects, and timelines as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • An advanced scientific degree (e.g. PhD, PharmD) required
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry or agency experience in biotechnology or pharmaceuticals (such as Medical Communications, Medical Writing, or Medical Education)
  • Expertise across all aspects of scientific publication strategy, planning and execution during all phases of drug development, and the commercialization process
  • Demonstrable strong leadership, communication skills (verbal/written), negotiation skills, and ability to work well in cross-functional teams
  • Understanding of good publication practices and guidance (GPP3, ICMJE), Sunshine Act, and other guidance related to scientific data communication

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree is acceptable with extensive relevant experience
  • Experience within oncology is preferred
  • Medical Affairs experience a plus
  • Experience managing direct reports and contract vendors

The hiring pay range for this position is $141,000 to $183,000 per year based on skills, education and experience relevant to the role. Other components of total compensation include a competitive equity grant at the time of hire (with additional annual grants, and grants upon promotion when applicable), and an annual bonus.
